iOS 7 Design Could Change Before Final Version Hits

There's a good possibility the design changes shown off at WWDC could get an overhaul themselves before iOS 7 hits later this fall. That's either really good news, or really bad news, depending on your opinion of the new Ive-ified OS. But one thing has become apparent over these past few days: reactions are most definitely mixed.

One of the bigger criticisms of the redesign is that there doesn't seem to be a unified theme with Apple's stock icons. I have read plenty of users complain that many icons look like designed individually, maybe by a deranged kindergartener hopped up on too much sugar. I tend to agree. But what was shown off to the public early this week was merely a "mid-stride" look at what's to come, according to those close to Apple.

The Next Web claims that, after speaking to folks at WWDC, Jony Ive actually used Apple's marketing and communications department to design the new stock app icons. Once a color palette was agreed upon, it was then the app design team's job to work on the "interiors" of the apps. "We've also been hearing that there wasn't a whole lot of communication between the various teams behind say, Mail and Safari," The Next Web was told.

Not only that, but there were apparently teams inside each group that disagreed on many designs, which is why there are so many inconsistencies between apps. "Those will be hammered out in days ahead." Work is still ongoing, of course, and what's being seeded out to developers is supposedly behind what was even shown off on stage—that's how quickly the OS is evolving. Right now, though, the design and other visual tricks are "most in flux." That clearly indicates something more refined will surely be available to consumers in the coming months.

As Apple releases betas before iOS 7's final release, it's likely we'll see some noticeable differences in terms of design, hopefully showing a stronger focus on consistency. How drastically Apple will change the aesthetics remains to be seen.
