Sony RX100 II: Sony’s Best Point-and-Shoot Is Even Better

The past few years Sony has completely overhauled its digital photo division, digging deep and coming up with some of the best cameras on the market. From mirrorless cameras and DSLRs to basic point-and-shoots, the company has created a strong portfolio for consumers with any budget. But last year's RX100, part of Sony's Cyber-shot line, is perhaps the company's—actually, the industry's—best point-and-shoot. Was.

With the new RX100 II, Sony's more refined point-and-shoot, the company has introduced a camera that's even better. New is 1-inch Exmor R sensor, Wi-Fi and NFC. There's also a tilting 3-inch LCD display, and a hot shoe for more flexibility. That tilting LCD will give users more range when shooting, more angles, while the addition of NFC and Wi-Fi will keep users connected to the outside world. Couple this with that same f/1.8 lens, and you've got wonderful performance in a small package.

Sony's reworked Exmor R sensor promises better low-light images—up to 40 percent increase in light sensitivity—meaning users get a flexible shooter for all occasions. Everything being added to the RX100 II might not be enough of an upgrade for owners of last year's model—and it's $750, rather than the RX100's $650 price tag—but it's a more fine-tuned shooter that proves Sony is at the top of its game.
